The Examination of Samuel Le'Pla Labourer taken on Oath before us two of his Majestys Justices of the peacein and of the said Isle (one where of is of the Quorum) this sixth day of December 1771 --
Who upon his Oath saith he is about twenty eight years of age was born in the Parish of Deeping in the County of Lincoln that before Martinmas 1760 he this Examinar let himself to John Chipson of the Hamlet of Wimblington farmer for one year viz: from the Martinmas to the Martinmas following at and for the wages of twelve pounds thirteen Shillings that he served his said Master the whole year and received his full years wages for the same that he has done no act since to his knowledge to gain himself a settlement in any other Parish or place whatsoever to manage [struck through in original] to manage and look after the said Mr. Chipsons farm at Maney in the said Isle that he hired a house standing in the said Hamlet of Maney of his said Master at the annual Rent of forty Shillings wherein he lived during the said year and maintained himself the whole time without paying ant Rates to the said Hamelt for the same and that he has done no act since to his knowledg to gain himself a settlement elsewhere.
