Catherine Cope was born at Madeley. Arthur Cope and his wife Louisa resided in the hosehold as did his siblings Robert and Beatrice. Arthur Cope was a potter's warehouseman. Robert Cope was a carter. Beatrice Cope was a warehousewoman. Robert Cope was born at Goldenhill, [Wolstanton]. Arthur Cope and his sister Beatrice were born at Stoke-upon-Trent. Ralph Rutter was in the Royal Marines according to the 1861 British census. The census states that he was a single, 24 year, 9 month old private. He was born in Wolstanton, Staffordshirre. At the time of the census, Ralph Rutter was stationed on the HMS Simoom, which was at Whampod, Canton River China. (RG 9, piece 4434, folio 6, p. 8) The HMS Simoom was an iron-hulled, 20-gun frigate serving primarily as a troopship. It was launched 24 May 1849 and decommissioned in 1887.
