At the time of their marriage at the Alfreton Anglican Church, Elizabeth Maud Valentine and George Frost both lived on Prospect Street in Alfreton. He was a platelayer, probably in the mines. Later, they resided in Somercotes, Derbyshire.
George Frost moved to the Alfreton / Somercotes area to work the coal mines. At the end of his working life, he was a haulage driver at the Pinxton Colliery, Pinxton, Derbyshire.
Being a member of the St. Johns Ambulance Brigade, George Frost founded the First Aid classes in Somercotes.
Before the First World War, George Frost served in the Territorial Army. During the Great War, he served in the 5th Batt., Sherwood Foresters and attained the rank of C.Q.M.S. C.Coy. He served in the army during the duration of the war. During the Second World War, George Frost was a lieutenant in the Home Guard. When he died in 1945, he was buried with full military honours at Birchwood Lane Methodist Chapel, Somercotes. Elizabeth Frost was later buried with him.

John William Valentine served in the British Army during the First World War. He enlisted on 7 March 1913. He was a gunner in the 322nd Siege Battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery. He served on the Salonika front in northern Greece in 1918. In September 1918, the British and Greek armies attacked the Bulgarian army at Doiran. The battle of Doiran was fought over several days from 15 to 19 September 1918. The worst fighting was on the hills known at Pip Ridge and Grand-Couronne. As a gunner, John William was not likely involved in direct combat. It is not known if he died from war-related wounds or from disease. He likely died at the 21st Stationary Hospital at Sarigol near the village of Kriston. (C.W.G.C.)
