Henry Warne, service number 907872, served in the Royal Air Force (R.A.F.) Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He was as aircraftman 1st class. He served in the Far East and was stationed at the R.A.F. base Sungei Patani in North Malaya and likely Singapore where the R.A.F. squadrons surrended in the Japanese in February 1942. In October 1942 the Japanese Army began construction of a railway to connect Thailand to Burma. Henry Warne died from cholera on 23 August 1943 in Kanchanaburi Province of Thailand where he was used a slave labour along with thousands of British, Commonwealth, American and Dutch Prisoners of War to build the railway. He is buried at Chungkai War Cemetery in Tha Ma Kham, Mueang Kanchanaburi, Kanachanaburi Province Thailand. The cemetery is about five kilometers from the infamous “Bridge of the River Kwai”.56
