During the 1920s he started rowing in the Lunenburg double-dory races. In 1952, he and his partner, the late Russell Langille of Oakland, Nova Scotia, rowed in the first International Dory Race which was held between teams from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and Gloucester, Massachusetts, never losing a race. In October of 1982, they were inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.50
