In May 1940, Frank Ernst signed up with the Canadian Dental Corps of the Canadian Army. He served as a Dental Technician at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Debert and Scoudouc, New Brunswick and Torbay, Newfoundland, working his way to Sergeant before his discharge in March 1946. Upon returning to Nova Scotia, he and his cousin Harry Walker (with whom he served in the Dental Corps) began the Lunenburg Dental Laboratory at Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Together they operated the business for 37 years until Frank Ernst retited in 1983.121
