John Dunsworth attended the University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario where he studied acting. He left the university during his senior year. After leaving university, he acted on radio dramas on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (C.B.C.) and perforemed at the Neptune Theatre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In Halifax, he leased an abandoned building on the Halifax waterfront in 1970 and converted it into a playhouse which he named the Pier One Theatre. Hi theatre became the city's first and most successful alternative theater production house. Later in the 1980s, John Dunsworth produced the “Welcome Show” for in-comong students at Dalhousie University. He also founded Filmworks Casting in 1987 where he becaming the most well-known casting director in Halifax.

John Dunsworth performed in film and on TV. He had roles movies such as Buried on Sunday (1992), The Shipping News (2001), Trailer Park Boys: The Movie (2006), Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day (2009), Tralier Park Boys 3: Don’t Legalize It (2014), and Lizzie Borden Took An Axe (2014) among other movie roles. On television, he had roles in Lexx (1999-2002), Trailer Park Boys (2001-2008 and 2014-2018), Shattered City: The Halifax Explosion (2003), Jesse Stone: Stone Cold (2005), Haven (2010-2015) and Forgive Me (2013) among other television roles. Philip Dunsworth had a lifelong passion for design and discovery and was always investigating the how and why of the physical world and the mysteries of the universe. He was a scientist, musician, philosopher and a true humanitarian. Philip had an Electronic Technician Diploma from the Radio College of Canada of Toronto, Onario, a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Diploma of Engineering from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical/Computer Option) from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in Halifax and a CPAD (Computer Programming/Advanced Diploma) from the Annapolis Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College He was employee of the year with Orion Electronics of Windsor, Nova Scotia in 2001, was awarded Second Prize in Canadian Engineering Design Competition, and First Prize in the Atlantic Engineering Design Competition in 1987 and also won Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia Award for High Academic Standing in 1984. He lived in St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador from 1987 to 1995 where he was Electronic Design Engineer at Instrumar Ltd. (1987-90) and an instructor at the Marine Institute of Newfoundland (1990-95). Upon his return to Nova Scotia he worked at Litton Systems Canada in Enfield, J.J. Mackay Meters in New Glasgow and most recently Orion Electronics, Windsor. 50
