Merrill Hyson was a plumbing instructor at Windsor Regional Vocational School for 19 years, and owned a plumbing business in Hantsport in his earlier years. A veteran of the Second World War, he served with the Provost Corps in the army, and later worked at Department of National Defense at C.F.B. Greenwood. He was involved in many organizations, I.O.O.F., Adoniram Council No. 10, Rebekah; Royal Canadian Legion, Lucknow Branch No. 109, Hantsport; O.E.S. Fairfield Chapter 22; the Shriners; Poyntz Masonic Lodge, Perceptory, and Hiram Chapter; and the Rupert H. MacNeil Conclave No. 30, Grand Imperial Conclave of Canada. Merrill was best-known for his singing ability and was requested to sing on numerous occasions. He sang at the Sherwood Baptist Church every summer for many years.
