He died on 7 November 1917 during the Second Battle of Passchendaele (26 October to 17 November 1917) which was part of the larger Third Battle of Ypres (31 July to 10 November 1917). He is recorded as having been buried in the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium although the location of his grave is unknown.142
