Stuart Hiltz served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. His first job was as a clam shucker with Hingham Shellfish Company, and then he owned the Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Hingham, Massachusetts. At the time of his passing, Stuart Hiltz and his family were proprietors of Hiltz's Harborfront Motel in Falmouth, Massachusetts which they continued to operate.177

John Hiltz owned his own heating and air conditioning company in Hingham, Massachusetts. He and his brother-in-law Eddie Newton owned and ran B&E Oil Company of Hingham for many years. He was also an ”Ace” clam digger since childhood along with his brother Stuart Hiltz. He grew up on Hingham Harbor and was an avid fisherman.
