Allen Langille joined the Canadian Army in 1940 at the age of 18 where he served with the 3rd Anti-Tank Regiment in England, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. He landed on the shores of France on D-Day (6 June) 1945 and returned home to his beloved Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia on the ship Dutchess of Bedford. He worked at Industrial Shipping in Mahone Bay upon his return and later for D.A. Burgoyne. He was a tireless volunteer in his community. He joined the Mahone Bay Fire Department on 15 August 1949 where he served for 55 years and was Fire Chief for 6 years from 1976 to 1982. He was also a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 49 in Mahone Bay and an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.261
