After the War, he served in Europe where he helped to establish an air traffic control network. From 1955 to 1960 when he retired as a captain, Joseph Reeves was stationed in Alaska. After leaving the Army, he moved to the Washington, D.C. area settling in Silver Springs, Maryland. He worked in real estate and was the office manager of Earl Waterson Real Estate Company in Silver Springs. In 1974, he opened the Old Tool Shed antique shop in Damascus, Maryland which he operated until his death. (Washington Post, 19 September 1981)
