George Gaul attended the Boston School of Accounting and the University of New Hampshire. He served with the 395th Fighter Squadron of the 368th Fighter Group in the United States Army Air Corps during Second World War. His squadron was the first to operate from Omaha Beach, Normandy, France after the invasion of Normandy. Stationed in England, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg, he was awarded five battle stars and one presidential unit citation.
He had worked as a sales executive, beginning his career with Remington Rand. He later worked for Homelite Inc., a division of Textron, and the Toro Corp. Active fraternally, he was a long-standing member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Brattleboro (Vermont) Lodge #1499 and a member of American Legion Post 5.
