Born on 5 Mar 1938 in Middleton, Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia, Canada. Bradley James died in Saint John, Saint John Co., New Brunswick, Canada, on 20 Nov 2011; he was 73.
In his youth, Bradley Slauenwhite was a runner and competed at the Olympic trials in 1956. He was a graduate from Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick and the Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro, Nova Scotia. He taught school in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as well as the Northwest Territories. In 1969 he received a Ford Fellowship to explore alternative methods of education.
Among many honours, Brad was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in recognition of outstanding public service, a Paul Harris Fellowship, the highest award given by the Rotary Club and was made a Distinguished Citizen by the Fredericton, New Brunswick Chamber of Commerce. He was a founder and long time Executive Director of Jobs Unlimited, an employment agency for mentally challenged adults, a vocation to which he was passionately dedicated. In addition, for thirty years Brad and Ruth Slauenwhite created colourful fancifuls toys which they sold at home and abroad under the banner of Performing Toys.
