Edmund Morris was a Progressive Conservative Party member of the Canadian Parliament for Halifax, Nova Scotia from June 1957 to February 1963. He was first elected on 10 June 1957 a general election to the 23rd Canadian Parliament. He was re-elected on 31 March 1958 to the 24th Parliament and on 18 June 1962 to the 25th Parliament. While serving as an M.P., he was Parliamentary Secretary to the Postmaster General and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Trade and Commerce. He also served on numerous parliamentary committees.
From 1974 to 1980, Edmund Morris was the mayor of Halifax, Nova Scotia. In a by-election on 6 May 1980, he was elected to the 52nd Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia replacing M.L.A. Gerald Regan who ran for federal office. He was relected on 6 October 1981 to the 53rd Assembly and on 6 November 1984 to the 54th Assembly which sat until 30 July 1988. As an M.L.A., he was variuosly Minister of Inergovernmental Affairs, Municipal Affairs, Fisheries and Social Services. He represented the riding of Halifax Needham.
