In later years he worked at his sister Marion’s independent grocery store and later Rhuland’s Save Easy, Mahone Bay. For a number of years he assisted with funerals at Mahone Funeral Home. William Rhuland was a charter and former member of the Mahone Bay and Area Lions Club. He was a member of St James’ Anglican Church, Mahone Bay and an adherent to Trinity United Church, Mahone Bay, where he was a member of the men’s choir and also on the Board of Trustees.41
