Francis Schnare started his seagoing career on the Research Vessel Vema (owned by Columbia University of New York, New York). He later went on to work at Atlantic Bridge and later fished with National Sea Products of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. For most of his working career, he was a scallop fishermen with Adams and Knickle Ltd of Lunenburg and later with Sweeney Fisheries of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia retiring in 1995.134
