As a young man Firman Whynot came to Bridgewater and worked for some time in the Box Factory there. He was for many years the engineer at the LaHave Creamery, and ever since 1939 was the operator of the plant of the Public Service Commission at Conquerall Mills, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. He had been residing in Conquerall Mills from 1944 until his derath. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and also a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Engineers.25
