On 18 Oct 1843 John Frederick married Sarah Ann Hirtle in Halifax Co., Nova Scotia, British North America.9 Born in 1825. Sarah Ann died in Wile Settlement, Hants Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, bef 1901; she was 76.

According to the 1881 Canadian federal census, the widow Lucinda Wile and five children resided in the Bridgewater census district, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. They resided in the household of her daughter and son-in-law Lois and William Crouse. Stuart Wile was a farm labourer. Lucinda and four of the children were Lutherans. Stuart Wile was a Baptist.
