At age 17, Elizabeth Doggett went to Boston, Massachusetts and trained at Booth Maternity Hospital as a maternity nurse. She then worked at private nursing in Boston and area for five years. In 1936 she returned to Nova Scotia and married Harold Emenau. Elizabeth Emenau was a member of the Pilgrim United Church, Brooklyn, Nova Scotia. She was also a member of Brooklyn Women’s Institute and the Brooklyn Home and School Association. She played badminton and broomball, loved to walk, swim, water ski and canoeing and she square danced for years.61

Harold Emeanau moved to Brooklyn, Queens County, Nova Scotia when he was 16 years old. He worked in the construction of the Mersey Paper Company. He worked in the paper mill for 46 years with the last 30 years as superintendent of the finishing department. At age 62, Harold Emenau retired and opened Emenau Subdivision in Brooklyn, where he helped to build ten houses. Harold Emenau was a member of Pilgrim United Church, Brooklyn where he served on many committees and was very active in the Sunday School. He was treasurer of the South Shore Presbytery for 45 years. He enjoyed working as director and treasurer for the United Church Youth Camp at Lake Sherbrooke for 40 years. Harold was also involved with the Boy Scouts. Harold and Elizabeth Emenau enjoyed square dancing, travelling, skating, swimming, fishing and boating. He curled for 25 years.61
