A graduate of Farmington State Teachers College in Framingham, Massachusetts, Wayne Moore taught school for over 40 years. He was a teaching principal in Hartland, Corinna, and Eliot, Maine. He taught special education in Hartford, Connecticut for 23 years until he retired. He was a union steward for American Federation of Teachers. Wayne Moore served in the United States Navy during the Second World War as a bugler and a pharmacist’s mate on the U.S.S. Botetourt. His ship was in Tokyo Bay, Japan to observe the signing of the peace treaty in 1945 that ended the war. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club, Moose, Masons and Veterans of Foreign Wars. One of his greatest joys was being an accomplished trumpet player. He played in marching bands as a boy and orchestras and dance bands all of his adult life. He played big band, swing, pop and his favorite, Dixieland, throughout New England. He loved being on the bandstand. (Bangor, Maine: Bangor Daily News)
