Jean Taylor got her nursing license in 1959 from the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and her master's degree in Maternal and Newborns at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She met her husband, Karl E. Young, in Syracuse, New York, and in 1962 they were married in Dedham, Massachusetts. Jean Young was a dedicated nurse for over 40 years and lived to serve others. She was a Visiting Nurse for many years in Syracuse, New York; New Haven, Connecticut; Phoenix, Arizona; and Dedham, Massachusetts. In her final move in 1976 to Harwich, Massachusetts, she became the supervisor of the Chatham Visiting Nurses Association, staying there for 10 years. She then worked at a number nursing agencies and nursing homes on Cape Cod until her retirement in 2004. She was very active at the Harwich United Methodist Church. As part of her commitment to the church, she served for many years at the local and district level as a member of the United Methodist Women. Jean enjoyed sewing and crafts, which led her to found the Crafty Ladies. She also was a Lay Speaker. 101
