I, Sarah Elizabeth Le Pla, Beer Dealer, of No. 481 Glossop road, in the said Borough, do hereby give notice, that I intend to apply to the Justices of the Peace in and for the said Borough, at an Adjornment of the General Annual Licensing Meeting, to be holden at the Town Hall in Sheffield, in and for the said Borough, on the 29th day of September, 1887, for a License under the Licensing Act, 1872, authorising me to apply to Sell by Retail, at a house situate at No. 481, Glossop road, in the said Township and Borough, BEER to be consumed off the Premises, in pursuance of the Act 26 and 27 Vic. C33 sec. 1, and Acts amending the same, and which said house hath not heretofore been so licensed.

The 1939 “England and Wales Register” of the population upon the outbreak of the Second World War in Europe states that the widower Samuel Gill resided in the Bakewell Registration District, Derbyshire. Ann Alice Gill lived in the household. Samuel Gill was a retired farmer. Ann Gill has his housekeeper.10

The 1891 British census states that Annie Wilshaw resided in her parents household at 34 Holland Road, Ecclesall Bierlow, Yorkshire. She was a certified elementary teacher. Annie Wilshaw was born at Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. (RG 12, piece 3808, folio 134, p. 64)

According to the 1901 British census, Sam and Annie Le Pla with their three children resided at 690 Abbeyvale, Eccleshall Bierlow, Yorkshire. The census noted that this address was located at Sheffield St. Oswald. Sam Le Pla was a cashier manager at an iron and steel works. He was born at Liverpool, Lancashire. Annie Le Pla was born at Wroxeter, Staffordshire. The children were born at Sheffield, Yorkshire. They employed a servant named Ida Hill who was from Eckington, Derbyshire. KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR IN SHEFFIELD
A verdict of “Death by misadventure” was returned at a Sheffield inquest yesterday on Sam Le Pla aged 66 of 47 Carterknowel Road, Abbeydale, Sheffield, who was knocked done by a motor car near his home on 11 January.
Geoffrey Le Pla said his father was a retired Managing Director of Henry Wright Ltd., steel merchants.
On 11 January he was knocked down by a car at the junction of Carterknowel and Bannerdale Road, Abbeydale, Sheffield.
Le Pla was taken to hospital with a fractured thigh, and was discharged at his own request on 27 February.
Medical evidence showed death was caused by heart failure accelerated by the accident.
Frederick Reaney Booth, steel merchant, of Derwent House, Bamford, said he was driving the car that struck Le Pla.
At the junction of the two roads he slowed up to allow another car to pass up Carterknowel road. As he went on a figure of a pedestrian appeared in front of his car, causing him to swerve. He could not avoid striking the man who had been obscured by an open umbrella he was carrying. With the help of two lorry drivers he carried the injured man to his house.
It was stated in Court that the police could find no further witness to the accident.

On 19 May 1891 Sam first married Annie Wilshaw, daughter of John Wilshaw & Annie [Wilshaw], in Cross-Canonby, Cumberland, England, United Kingdom.6 Born in 1867 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, England.
