Ira Langille lived most of his life in Barss Corner and New Germany, Nova Scotia. In 1942 he went to Halifax, Nova Scotia where he obtained his apprenticeship in carpentry and where he stayed to work until he returned home to manage the family farm several years later. He also worked for MacKay Saw Mill, New Germany for 17 years and then continued his employment with Fielding and Wynn until 1984 until he retired. Ira Langille was a lifelong active member of the Barss Corner Baptist Church in Barss Corner, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a member and past master of Hillcrest Masonic Lodge #93, New Germany. He served as a Municipal Councilor for a number of terms where he worked for the municipality and school board. He was an active volunteer serving on the Board of Directors of LaHave Manor Corporation in Dayspring, Nova Scotia and Rosedale Home for Special Care in New Germany. He was a provincially appointed surveyor for Lunenburg County and was the 1990 recipient of the Community W.A.Y.S. Award.121
