In his early years, Ronald Hiltz was a fox and mink farmer until the depression closed the industry. Ronald apprenticed with his father, carpenter Dave, where he learned the building trade. Ronald was inscripted during the Second World War at R.C.A.F. Base Greenwood. Following the war, Ronald became a Building Contractor and was employed for a three month period in 1953, with the Dept. of Transport to construct a house and a weather station on Sable Island. Ronald returned at Christmas 1953 and following this took employment in January 1954 in Halifax where he constructed the first Shopping Centre In Halifax on Bayers Road. Ronald continued to work in Halifax as a foreman for George Blunden Construction, retiring in 1976. Ronald kept active for many years helping and advising many family and friends while they were building their homes.
