Hazen Veno was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers' College in Truro, Nova Scotia. After teaching for four years, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. During the Sceond World War, he attained the rank of flight lieutenant until 1945. He received the Oak Leaf with King’s Commendation for valuable service in the air. After his discharge he moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia and enrolled in a chartered accountant program articling with Mr. G. Wallace Dickson. In December, 1950, he received his chartered accountant designation and entered into partnership with Mr. Dickson. He later formed H.H. Veno and Company which he merged in 1979 with Barrow-Nicholl and Company. He retired in 1981. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Halifax. He served on church council for many years as secretary, president , and treasurer. On several occasions he was a synod delegate at the national level. He was a member of St. John Lodge No. 2 AF and AM and served as master in 1968, director of ceremonies for over 15 years and as secretary.45
