During his teaching career, he taught at Culloden, Digby County; Middle Musquodoboit; Pembroke; and Cheverie. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for three years. Arthur Sanford served with the Nova Scotia Highlanders during the Second World War and upon returning home from overseas, he worked as a welder for Ralph & Arthur Parsons, Windsor, Nova Scotia. Later he worked at Dresser Minerals, Walton, Nova Scotia. He was a former school bus driver, delivered the mail and worked at the Fundy Gypsum Co., Windsor, until retirement in 1985. Arthur Sanford was the last keeper of the historic Walton Lighthouse, from 1962-1970. He was a lifelong supporter of the Liberal Party and was an active member of the Grace United Church, Walton.
