When he was a young man, Richard Veinott joined the Canadian Army where he became an Army cook. He was employed at Canadian Forces Base Greenwood in Nova Scotia and while there he began to explore careers. By the end of these years, he had decided to become a teacher, but not before he was certified as Chef de Cuisine of Canada. In September of 1972, his teaching career began and for the next three decades he enjoyed working with the Vocational Training Program in Truro, Nova Scotia. He loved his job teaching the Apprenticeship Program to young Atlantic Canadians; one of the best rated courses of its time. He also did a lot of judging at food fairs and exhibitions in Truro over those years. He retired in 1999.221
