David Simpson attended Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. while also working at Radio Acadia, and met his future wife Heather Hyson. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1975. He joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (R.C.M.P.) in 1977 and was stationed in Alberta (K Division) working in the communities of Valleyview, Didsbury, High Prairie and, finally, Calgary, Albeta where he worked in Passport and Immigration remaining there until his medical discharge in 1996.249
