He was sentenced to two years on 15 March 1886. This was his first conviction. He was tried at the Clearfield County, Pennsylvania Court House and was from New Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Amos A. Hyson resided at Main Street, Reynoldsville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania according to the 1900 United States federal census. The census indicates that he was married but was living on his own. He was a coal miner. Amos Hyson immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1880 and was not naturalized. On 17 Sep 1889 Amos Alexander married Elizabeth Abigail Bish, daughter of James A. Bish & Caroline [Bish]. Born in Sep 1868 in Porter, Clarion Co., Pennsylvania, U.S.A. Elizabeth Abigail died in Akron, Summit Co., Ohio, U.S.A., in Jul 1957; she was 88.

The marriage was recorded as William Wells and "Ellen" Heyson. William Wells was a corporal in the 2nd W.R.R. of the British Army. The birth records of his children indicate that William Wells was a carpenter.

Descendant Lynn Neary states that William Wells was stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 22 September 1888 to 8 March 1891.

The 2nd W.R.R was the 2nd Battalion of the 33rd (First Yorkshire West Riding) Regiment (a.k.a. the Duke of Wellington Regiment after 1853). The 2nd Battalion was was stationed in Bermuda in 1886 and was transferred to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1888. In 1891 the 2nd Battalion was moved to the West Indies, apparently Jamaica based upon family birth records. The battalion was in Jamaica until 1893 when it was transferred to South Africa; however, the Wells family was in Ealing, Middlesex, England by 1893.
