Alfred Herget graduated from Lowell Technical Institute in Lowell, Massachusetts and received his MBA from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. He served in the 65th Battalion of the U.S. Army out of Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and later Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He served 18 months in Okinawa, Japan.

Alfred Herget worked for many years in the printed circuit industry for National Vulcanized Fiber (NVF) Company which was headquartered in Yorklyn, Delaware. He owned and operated Al Herget Real Estate for many years in Westford, Massachusetts and later founded Advanced Technical Marketing of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, serving as CEO and President. In retirement, he held various jobs over the years including limo driver, ski resort worker, and funeral home attendant.

Through his life, Alfred Herget was very involved within his community of Westford, Massachusetts. He served as president of Westford Youth Hockey, president of Northeast Circuits Association (NECA), Past President of Northeastern University Taylor Society, was a Mason, and a member of the Westford Finance Committee. Throughout his years, he coached youth hockey, baseball, and was coach of the Lowell, Massachusetts Junior Chiefs (17-21 year olds).
