On 11 Jan 1882 Joseph Henry first married Sophia Elizabeth Anthony, daughter of Peter James Anthony & Matilda Jane Rafuse, in Milton, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.12 Born on 24 Dec 1863 in Charleston, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, British North America. Sophia Elizabeth died bef 1886; she was 22.

The 1911 Canadian federal census states that Joseph and Carrie Whynot resided at Inglisville, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. Jennie Best [who was the sister to son-in-law William Best] resided in the household. Joseph Whynot was a farmer. Joseph and Carrie Whynot alomg with Jennie Best were Baptists. Joseph and Cary Wynot with two grandchildren resided at Inglisville, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia according to the 1921 Canadian federal census. They owned their home. Joseph Wynot was a farmer. Born on 9 Feb 1860 in Queens Co., Nova Scotia, British North America.18 Abigail was baptized in Liverpool, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, British North America, on 4 Oct 1860.18 Abigail died in Beverly, Essex Co., Massachusetts, U.S.A., on 29 Dec 1942; she was 82.39

Circumstantial evidence suggests that the Abigail Whynot who was the daughter of Henry Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Foster) Whynot was the same person who was married to William Gaul. There appears to be no record of a marriage between William Gaul and Abigail (Abbie) Whynot, but the registered births of some of their children give Whynot as Abigail Gaul’s maiden name. Also, Joseph Henry Whynot who was the elder brother of Abigail Whynot resided at Inglisville and Lawrencetown area of Annapolis County where the family of William and Abigail Gaul also lived. The 1911 Canadian federal census shows that her mother Elizabeth Whynott lived in the household of her daughter and son-in-law Maude and John Meldon.

On 9 Nov 1887 Abigail first married William Gaul in Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.54 Born on 4 Apr 1832 in Upper Canada, British North America.23 William died in Cornwallis, Kings Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, bef 1911; he was 78. Occupation: Cooper, Millman.

The 1891 Canadian federal census states that William and Abigail Gaul with seven children [four of which were by his first marriage] resided in the Lawrencetown Lane census district, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. The occupation of William Gaul is illegible in the census form. Samuel and John Gaul were saw mill hands. The family were Baptists. The 1921 Canadian federal census states that Millege abd Abbie Keene resided in the Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia. They rented their home for CAD 3.00 per month. Millege Keene was a labourer. He was a Baptist. Abbie Keene was an Anglican. (RG 31-C-1, 1921, Nova Scotia, Annapolis Co., ED 56-21, Lawrencetown, p. 14)

According to the 1930 United States federal census, Abby Keene resided at 65 Livingston Avenue, Beverly, Massachusetts. She lived in the household of her daughter and son-in-law Fanny and Austin Banks. Abby Keene immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1922 and was not naturalized. The 1940 United States federal census states that the widow Abbie Keene resided at 21 Fayette Street, Beverly, Massachusetts. She lived in the household of her daughter and son-in-law Fannie and Austin Banks. Abbie Keene immigrated to the United States from Nova Scotia and was not naturalized.
