Alfred Petersen was a lance corporal in the United States Marine Corps. He died on 24 June 1965 when the military transport plane on which he was travelling to Okinawa, Japan crashed upon take-off into the mountains near El Toro Marine Air Station, California. The C-135 plane was transporting troops to Vietnam. All 84 persons on the plane died in the crash.
