The 1891 British census states that Josiah and Harrette Markillie with three children (Herbert, Mildred and Florence) resided at 26 and 27 Church Terrace, Wisbech. The census stated that Josiah was born at Upwell, Cambs and Harrette at Walsoken, Norfolk. The children were born at Wisbech. Josiah Markillie was an 'Outfitter' while his wife Harrette and son Herbert were described as assistants (presumably in the shop). Mildred was a domestic housekeeper. The family employed a servant named Emma Cook.
The Kelly's Directories for Cambridgeshire in 1883, 1896 and 1900 stated that Josiah Markillie was a tailot and hatter located at 26 and 27 Church Terrace, Wisbech. The 1916 Kelly's Directory lists Markilli and Son, Tailors at 113 and 114 Norfolk Street, Wisbech.
