George and Charlotte Loader with four children (George, Emma, Charlotte and Ann) emigrated to New Zealand in 1850. They sailed on the Castle Eden. The ship departed Gravesend, England on 28 September 1850 and stopped at Plymouth, England before trying to depart there on 3 October 1850. Due to heavy weather, the ship finally departed Plymouth on 18 October 1850. The Castle Eden arrived at Port Cooper (later renamed Lyttelton), New Zealand on 14 February 1851. The Castle Eden was the fifth ship of immigrants under the guidance of the Canterbury Association which was a Church of England scheme to establish a colony on the South Island of New Zealand.
