To, The City Coroner
Sir,
I have the honor to respectfully report for your [sic] that at about 8-30 p.m. on January 25th 1947, Edgar Clarence Tume, a Laborer, 46 years of age, residing at 49 John Street Hindmarsh, was reported to the Hindmarsh Police as missing from his home above, by his son Clarence Edard Tume of the same address. At 9-10 a.m. this date Alfred William Baker, Gardener, employed by the Hindmarsh Corporation and residing at 24 Richard Street Hindmarsh, called at the Station and reported that the body of a Man was lying in a Lavatory at the Hindmarsh Oval. Constable Parsons and Jordan went to the spot and found the Dead Body of a man who has been identified as that of Edgar Clarence Tume. A razor was found lying underneath the body. There were blodd stains on the Razor. The [sic] was a wound about 4 inches long and two inches deep extending from the left Jugular Vein to about ½ inch on the right of the wind Pipe which was severed.
Clara Eleanor Tume, wife of Edgar Clarence Tume (Desceased) residing at 49 John Street Hindmarsh:- I identify the body as that of my late husband, he was a laborer 46 years of age, and resided with me at the above address. I last saw him alive about 1 p.m. on January 25 when he was at home and stated that he would take a walk down to have a look at a Fire. He left home, and I did not see him again until I saw his body at the City Morgue at 10-30 a.m. 26th inst with Constable Jordan. I was shown a Razor by Constable Jordan which I identify as the property of my late Husband. The deceased man was of Ill health during the past six months, and has been an out door patient at the Adelaide Hospital for about 3 months. The deceased has been queer in his habits of late, but made no threats of doing himself any harm.
Clarence Edgar Tume, Son of the Deceased, residing at 49 John Street Hindmarsh states:- The deceased was my Father. I last saw him alive at 12:45 p.m. on the 25th inst. He was then at home. I was conversing with him, and he appeared to be a little strange and only answered Yes or No. He then got up from the Table and said he would take a walk and have a look at the Fire. I then left home to go to work, and at that time he was assisting Mother to wash the dishes.
Alfred William Baker, Gardener, residing at 24 Richard Street Hindmarsh states:- At about 9-5 [sic] a.m. this date, I saw the body of a man lying in the urinal face down with blood stains around the face. The urinal is situated at the North Western corner of the Hindmarsh Oval. I went to the Hindmarsh Police Station and informed the Police. I did not notice the Body there when I examined the Oval before locking the gates at 8 O’clock last night 25th inst. I accompanied the Police from the Station to where the Body was lying.
Clarence Gordon Parson, Police Constable, Stationed at Hindmarsh states: At about 9-5 [sic] a.m. this date I accompanied Mr. Baker to a Urinal on the Hindmarsh Oval. In the Urinal I saw the body of the deceased, lying face downwards on the floor. I turned the body over and found the Razor produced lying on the floor. The razor had blood stains on the blade, and handle. The body was stiff and cold. I obtained the services of the Hindmarsh Ambulance and conveyed the body to the City Morgue. On the body I found the Razor case produced and a hankerchief [sic].
Francis Laurence Jordan, Police Constable, Stationed at Hindmarsh states: At about 9-5 [sic] a.m. 26-1-27 I saw the body of the deceased at the Hindmarsh Oval. I went to 49 John Street Hindmarsh and saw “Clara Eleanor Tume”. I informed her that the body of a man answering the discription [sic] of her Husband had been found Dead at the Hindmarsh Oval. I accompanied Mrs Tume to the City Morgue, there she identified the body as that of her late husband. I have seen the Razor which was found by Constable Parsons, and showed it to Mrs Tume, which she identifies as the property of her late Husband. There was a cut about four inches long and 2 inches deep in the neck of deceased extending from the juggler [sic] Vein to the right of the Wind pipe, which was severred [sic].
