He first lived at Sønderby on Funen and at age 8 moved to Magleby, Stevns district. He attended Sorø Academy for four years, leaving there at age 18 to become an officer. He gave this up and travelled to America, where he quickly found employment at a machine factory in Worcester, Mass. The company built a spring factory to which he was transferred, and by year's end was promoted to manager. He travelled for the factory, but moved to Racine, Wisconsin where he founded the monthly publication Norden. He has published travel guides and poetry.
