Audrey Dilks lived her her maternal aunt and uncle Cleora and Alton Worley who appear to have adopted her after her mother died. Audrey Dilks became Audrey Worley.

Carl Homer enlisted in the United States Navy in 1948 upon graduation from high school. He was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia in 1949. In 1950, he joined the United Statres Air Force and was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi; Puerto Rico; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Peru, Indiana; and Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He married Audrey Worley on April 7, 1954, and they were stationed overseas in the Philippines, Japan and Okinawa before he retired from the Air Force in May of 1971 with the rank of technical sergeant. He was an air policeman in the Air Force and eventually ended up in the Sentry Dog Program, which he was doing when he retired. Upon retirement he joined the United States Customs Service and entered their dog program in 1971 and later joined their Customs Patrol Division. When he retired in 1986, he was in the Customs Narcotics Division in the Gulf of Mexico, working for some time with the United States. Coast Guard. After retirement from Customs, he started a small craft business and did many local craft shows. (Obituary: San Antonio Express-News, 4 December 2003)
