Lindberg Wilbert Hyson (4137) , son of
2679. Morris William Hyson &
Violet Belle Hiltz.
Born on 28 Mar 1933 in Indian Point, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, Canada. Lindberg Wilbert died in Indian Point, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, on 2 May 2025; he was 92.
Lindberg “Bobby” Hyson left school just before completing Grade X and made a trip on the S/S Irvingdale as a Messman, and as much as he loved the water he decided he wanted to remain on land. He worked various jobs until he went to work for Smith & Rhuland Shipyard in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, later running the Yacht Shop for many years. While working in the yard he helped with the build of schooner Bluenose II and was on it the day it was launched. Eventually he went to work at Interhabs in Hubbards, Nova Scotia until he retired.
In his younger years he was a member of the Indian Point Fire Department. He played hockey with the Mahone Bay Bombers. He was a member of the Canadian Dory Racing Association for many years. He enjoyed Monday nights during the winter months going to Western Shore Legion with Garnet Hiltz to the card games. He liked to watch hockey and baseball. I n his heyday, along with a few beverages he loved singing and playing his Gibson guitar.
He carried himself with the vigour of a much younger man. Bobby Hyson was rarely idle. He always had to be doing something. Even at night when sitting in his chair he was doing word search puzzles. He took great pride in our property as well as a property down the road which he was caretaker for many years up ‘til he had his stroke. He received many compliments on his wood pile. During winter months and rainy days he spent hours in the basement making dory and lobster whirligigs. His last project was building a lighthouse. There wasn’t much he wouldn’t tackle. Rarely did we have to get a repair man in for anything.
He enjoyed our many camping trips around Nova Scotia. He also enjoyed our trips to Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Florida, Indiana and Costa Rica (where he zip lined a few weeks shy of his 80th birthday). He also enjoyed our annual trips to Gloucester, Massachusetts every June and our annual trips to Dominican Republic and Cuba with Garnet and Diane Hiltz. One of his wishes was to do a family trip to Cuba which we did.121
