Ella May Hennigar taught in many Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia schools and served a total of 38 years as a teacher and principal. In the words of former teaching colleague Mrs. Gail Fudge, "The Lunenburg county district ... is richer for having had this lady as one of their educators." She was a member of the New Ross and Sherwood Baptist churches, and attended St. John's Anglican Church in Chester Basin, Nova Scotia during her married life. For 38 years, she was a fundraiser for the Canadian Red Cross and also collected for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and Canadian Cancer Society.76
