Born on 23 Nov 1928 in Milltown, Charlotte Co., New Brunswick, Canada. John Richard died in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on 28 Dec 2015; he was 87. Occupation: Military Pilot, Commercial Pilot.
John Farnham worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia until 1948 when he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (R.C.A.F.) as a radar operator. In 1949 he re-mustered to aircrew and trained as a pilot from 1949-1950. In 1953 whilst flying a Trenton, Ontario-based B-25 Mitchell bomber on a training flight to Currie Field (Lincoln Park) Calgary, he gave a ride home from there to Camp Borden, Ontario to a lovely airwoman named Joan. In 1954 he married this girl Joan, the love of his life. They raised three sons as they moved them from base to base across Canada until he retired from the R.C.A.F. in 1975 in Calgary. His family meant a great deal to him and he cherished greatly the many fond memories of them in various locations and doing different activities.
During his career in the R.C.A.F., John Farnham flew various aircraft in many different roles over most of the world. After retiring, he then flew corporate aircraft for MP Petroleum and Calgary Power (later TransAlta) until 1996. After retiring he flew private aircraft for pleasure. He enjoyed hiking, cross country skiing, walking and activities associated with aviation. As a boy he had always dreamed of being a pilot. He achieved this ambition and really loved flying. He was an "aircraft nut" in the true sense of that word, reading everything he could about pilots and flying. (Obituary: Calgary Herald, 31 December 2015)
