On 19 June 1896, John Myrer wrote his last will and testament. He died on 25 June 1896. The will was probated at Lunenburg on 2 July 1896. He bequeathed his daughter Clara “One Sixteenth of the Schooner Blenheim together with One Hundred Dollars in Cash, for her own use, free from and clear of the Control of her said husband.” The will further stipulated that upon the death of her mother, Clara would receive an equal share from the disposal of remaining parental estate and that his “Interest in the Schooner Minerva be sold as soon as possible and the proceeds to be applied to the Estate.”

Jeffrey Hyson was a sea captain or master mariner. He sailed out of Lunenburg, N.S. on brigantines or barkentines. He sailed to the Far East and points along the coast of North America. He left the sea as a result of a recurring illness (letter: 1 March 1985 Laurie [Hyson] Kattelle to Audrey Wallace) and took up farming at Indian Point. The McAlpine’s Directory for 1908 indicates that he was a farmer at Indian Point, N.S.
Captain Jeffrey Hyson retired from fishing at some point during the 1910s. Upon retiring he opened the first store at Indian Point. Some of his business was with the local Mi'kmaq from Gold River. In an interview conducted in 1989, Jeffrey’s daughter Mary related the following: “The Indians came from the reserve in Gold River by canoe to trade salmon for tobacco and molasses. That was summer barter. The salmon was never weighed. It was just a swap.... they wouldn't do business with my mother.
