Roy Hirtle graduated from the Nova Scotia Normal School at Truro, Nova Scotia in 1909. He was a teacher in Nova Scotia for four years before becoming a high school principal and supervisor of Nova Scotia high schools for another five years. He recived his bachelor of science dregree vfrom Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1921 followed by a master’s dregree there in 1923. Professor Roy Hirtle was a founder Waterloo College, Waterloo, Ontario in 1923. When Waterloo College affiliated with the University of Western Ontario in 1924, he became professor of science and mathematics until his death in 1946. He was registrar of the college for 17 years. In the 1920s and 1930s, Rev. Sweard Hirtle was an Associate Professor of Classics at Waterloo College (now Wildred Laurier University). Seward Hirtle was the minister of Knox Presbyterian Church in Fingal, Elgin County, Ontario and St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Port Stanley, Elgin County, Ontario from 1953 until 1959. Prior to that he was a minister in Richmond Hill, York County, Ontario.

On 16 Jul 1919 Seward William married Margaret Mary Mosher, daughter of Alfred David Mosher & Sarah Ann Armenia Lohnes, in Lunenburg, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.13 Born on 22 Sep 1891 in Feltzen South, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.25 Margaret Mary died in St. Thomas, Elgin Co., Ontario, Canada, on 7 Nov 1984; she was 93.25

Margart Hirtle continued to reside at Fingal, Eligin County, Ontario after the death of her husband in 1959. She remained there until 1980 when she moved to Wallacetown, Elgin County, Ontario. She had been a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church and its Women’s Missionary Society in Fingal25.
