Throughout his working career, Ronald Ernst he did many things including employment at then National Sea Products (1978-1983) sailing on the Cape Bauld and later the Cape Hunter. He did not want to spend his life at sea and became Manager of Bluenose Golf Club in Lunenburg (1983–2006). After leaving the golf club, he took a sabbatical that lasted a little over a year and then worked as a labourer in two types of construction jobs, where he was an asbestos removable laborer for Asbestos Abatement Ltd.
Through these jobs Ron Ernst acquired a number of awards and certificates including professional drivers and Canada safety council courses, trawler man certificate for offshore fisheries, business management degree, level two golf professional certification from the United States Golf Teachers Federation out of Port St. Lucie, Florida, which he attained while studying in Myrtle Beach South Carolina, as well as numerous courses and certificates, all under the watchful eye of the Provincial Governments.117
Ronald Frank married Valerie Parsons.
They had the following children:
