William Richard died in Saugus, Essex Co., Massachusetts, U.S.A., on 15 Aug 1933; he was 72.11 Occupation: Ship Carpenter.

Abt 1886 William Richard married Maria Crosthwaite. Born abt 1866 in Moncton, Westmorland Co., New Brunswick, British North America. Maria died aft 1940; she was 74.

The 1881 Canadian census records a Croswait family at Salisbury, Westmorland Co., New Brunswick. The family were of Irish origins. There was a 15-year-old daughter "Manah", probably a mis-reading of Maria.

In the death records of three of her children, Maria Crossthwaite came from Moncton, New Brunswick; Cape Breton, Nova Scotia; and simply New Brunswick.

William and Maria Salsman with six children resided at 35 Leyden Street, [East] Boston, Massachusetts according to the 1900 United States federal census. Maria Salsman had given birth to nine children by 1900 of whom six were still living. They rented their home. His eleven-year-old niece Alice Salsman lived in the household. William Salsman was a butcher. He immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1884 and was naturalized. Maria Salsman immigrated to the United States from Canada, but her naturalization was not recorded. (T623-676, Massachusetts, Suffolk Co., ED 1168, Boston ward 1, p. 14A)

According to the 1910 United States federal census, William and Maria Salsman with six children resided at 23 Rock Valley Avenue, Everett, Massachusetts. They rented their home. Maria Salsman had given birth to ten children by 1910 of whom seven were still living. Henry and William Pelcher were boarders in the household. William Salsman was a meat cutter in a butcher shop. Fred Salsman was a conductor for street railway. Percy Salsman was an apprentice in the furniture industry. William Salsman immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1886. Maria Salsman immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1880 and was not naturalized. (T624-597, Massachusetts, Middlesex Co., ED 808, Everett ward 3, p. 12B)

The 1920 United States federal census states that William and Marie Salsman with two adult children resided at Howard Street, Saugus, Massachusetts. They owned their home on which they had a mortgage. Their son and daughter-in-law Percy and Mary Salsman lived in the household. William Pilcher was a boarder in the home. William Salsman was a meat cutter in the wholesale meat industry. Percy Salsman was an apprentice printer. William Salsman [Jr.] was a fireman with a fire department. Elmer Salsman was a chauffeur for a meat store. William Salsman immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1885 and was naturalized in 1890. Maria Salsman immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1882 and was naturalized in 1890. (T625-697, Massachusetts, Essex Co., ED 286, Saugus, p. 7A)

William and Maria Salsman resided at 5 Howard Street, Saugus, Massachusettsaccording to the 1930 United States federal census. They owned their home which was valued at USD 5000.00. They did not own a radio set. Their grandson Ethan Allen lived in the household. William Salsman was a meat cutter in a market. William Salsman immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1886 and was not naturalized. Maria Salsman immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1888 and was not naturalized.
