Family of Andrew White (1) & Elizabeth Demon
2. James White (Wight) (Andrew White1). Born in 1822 in Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, British North America.2 James died in Kings Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1886; he was 64.2 Buried in Greenwood, Kings Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.

Note: Birth date of 1822 for James White is based upon gravestone inscription at Greenwood Cemetery. His age as stated in the 1871 census which places his birth date about 1817.

James White appears in the 1861 Nova Scotia census (Lunenburg, polling district 9, abstract 2, Bridgewater).

James and Margaret White with eleven children resided in the Bridgewater census district according to the 1871 Canadian federal census. His parents Andrew and Elizabeth White lived in the household. Sarah Seamon lived in the household. All members of the family were born in Nova Scotia according to the census. James, Andrew, John, James, William and Simeon White were farmers. The family was listed as being Baptist. James White and the children are listed as being of Irish background while his wife Margaret White is listed as being of English background. James and Andrew White could read but not write, while Margaret White was illiterate. James White owned 150 acres of land of which 100 were listed as occupied, 25 as improved and ten in pasture. He additionally owned one house, one waggon/sled, two other horned cattle, and 12 sheep. In terms of agricultural production for 1870, the farm produced 15 bushels of barley, 25 bushels of rye, two bushels of buckwheat, 30 bushels of potatoes, four tons of hay, 15 lbs. of wool and 19 yards of cloth. Also two sheep and one swine were slaughtered in 1870. (RG 31-C-1, 1871, Nova Scotia, Lunenburg Co., ED 195-B2, Bridgewater, pp. 76-77 [house 226, family 242.)

James White appears in the 1881 federal census (Kings 17-J1, pp. 11-12). They resided in Aylesford, Nova Scotia. He is listed as farmer having been born in New Brunswick [although previous records have stated Nova Scotia]. The family is listed as Baptist, of Irish background, and having been born in Nova Scotia. Marriage records of the younger children indicate that after about 1873 they lived in Harmony, Kings Co., N.S. which is about 6 kilometres south of Aylesford, N.S.

Margaret White is found in the 1891 federal census (Kings 37-21 Kingston, p. 23). She was a widow. Her children Stephen and Georgia White resided with her. The census states that her parents were born in the United States which is inconsistent with other records. The family were Baptists. Stephen White was a farmer labourer and his sister Georgia was a house maid.

Abt 1842 James first married Maria Julia Sproul, daughter of Elliott Sproul & Sophia Crocker Baker. Born on 19 May 1819 in Annapolis Twp., Annapolis Co., Nova Scotia, British North America.3 Maria Julia died in Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, British North America, on 17 Jun 1854; she was 35.4

“On Sunday 18th June, I buried our sister Maria White of Bridgewater, whom I baptized a year ago. Her last illness was very short. A diseased frame suddenly sunk under accumulated burdens and hoping in God, her Redeemer, she died on the Saturday preceding her burial. She left a husband and five helpless children, on e an infant. There are he first departures in the Christian church in Chelsea and this vilage since my connection herewith.”4

On 16 Aug 1854 James second married Margaret Elizabeth Lintlop, daughter of Jacob Lintlop & Sophia Sharp, in Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, British North America.1 Born on 27 Dec 1831 in Middle LaHave, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, British North America.5 Margaret Elizabeth was baptized in Lunenburg, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, British North America, on 17 Jan 1832.5 Margaret Elizabeth died in Harmony, Kings Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, on 19 Apr 1915; she was 83.1 Buried in Apr 1915 in Greenwood, Kings Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.2

The 1838 Nova Scotia census indicates that Andrew White had a daughter between ages 6 and 14 .
