Living in the household was ten-year-old Herman Nickerson who had no stated relationship to the family [when in fact he was the nephew of Emma Acker]. Wallas Sarty lived in the hosehold. Moor Acker was a farmer. Hattie Acker was a school teacher. Fred Acker was a master mariner. Mervin Acker was a blacksmith. John Acker was a sailor. Wallas Sarty was a mariner. The 1900 United States federal census states that William and Mary Hyson with six children resided at 101 Mulberry Street, Fall River, Massachusetts. They rented their home. Mary Hyson had given birth to seven children of whom six were still living in 1900. William Hyson was a painter. George Hyson was a shoemaker. William, Mary, Arthur, George, Emiline, Jessie and Obed Hyson immigrated to the United States in 1896 and were not naturalized. Jessie Hyson was a trimmer in a cotton mill. William Hyson immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1895 and was naturalized by 1910. He immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1885 and was naturalized. Jennie Hyson immigrated to the United States from Canada in 1894 and was naturalized. Born on 31 Jul 1869 in Clearland, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.10 James Stephen was baptized in Mahone Bay, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, on 16 May 1870.10 James Stephen died in Cambridge, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, U.S.A., on 10 Dec 1946; he was 77.11 Occupation: Ship rigger, Bridge Painter.

In 1891 James Hyson married Elizabeth Meagher at Curling, Newfoundland. They married at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Jacobum Hyson was the son of William Hyson and Elizaberh Turner and was from Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. Elizabeth Meagher was from Benoit’s Cove, Newfoundland and was the daughter of James Meagher and Elizabeth White.

On 8 April 1901 an Elizabeth Meagher who was born at Port Saunders, Newfoundland died at age 28 at Wexford Road, Curling, Newfoundland. She was buried in the Roman Catholic cemetery there. In 1900 James Hyson was living in Boston, Massachusetts. If this Elizabeth Meagher is the same who married James Hyson in 1891, it is possible given that he was Protestant that their marriage was annulled.

At the time of his second marriage, James Hyson was a ship rigger in 1904. He resided in Chelsea, Mass. Nettie Smith Silver was a domestic and resided in Boston, Mass.

The 1900 United States federal census states that James Heyson resided at 5 Maple Place, Boston, Massachusetts. He was a lodger in the household of widow Nettie E. Silver and her four children. James Heyson was a rigger. He emigrated from Canada in 1896 and was naturalized in 1899. The census records that James Heyson was single. (T623-678, Massachusetts, Suffolk Co., ED 1249, Boston, p. 16A)

James and Nellie Heyson resided at 38 Woodward Avenue, [Roxbury], Massachusetts according to the 1910 United States federal census. They rented their home. Nellie Heyson had three children had given birth to three children in a previous marriage, all of whom were still living and one of which resided with them. James Heyson was a ship rigger at a local shipyard. James Heyson emigrated from Nova Scotia in 1885 and does not appear to have been naturalized by 1910. Nellie Heyson emigrated from Canada in 1884 and does not appear to have been naturalized. A boarder also resided with them. James Hyson appears in the Boston Directory for the years 1903-04, 1906-15, 1919-21. He lived at Roxbury in 1903, 1906-12, 1915, at East Lenox St. (South End) in 1904, at Hyde Park in 1914, and at Dorchester in 1915, 1919-21. He and Elta appear in the Cambridge Directory for the year 1923 and in Lothrop’s Belmont Directory for the years 1925, 1929, and 1932 (NEHGS has only those years). In 1946, they resided at 35 Williams St., Cambridge, Mass.

The 1920 United States federal census states that James and Elta Heyson resided at 205 Cottage Street, Boston, Massachusetts. They rented their home. Her widowed father Charles Randal and brother-in-law William Miller lived in the household. James Heyson was bridge worker in bridge construction. He immigrated to the United States from Nova Scotia, Canada in 1897 and was naturalized in 1918. (T625-734, Massachusetts, Suffolk Co., ED 312, Boston ward 11, p. 4B)

According to the 1940 United States federal census, James and Elta Heyson resided at 75 Creeley Road, Belmont, Massachusetts. They rented their home for USD 60.00 per month. They owned a radio set. William Nickerson appears in the 1891 federal census (Queens 40-H1, p. 5 [family 30]). He was a caulker and a Baptist. He lived with his parents and was literate. Margaret and William were married Presbyterian. The marriage records state that he was a caulker and resided at Liverpool, N.S.

William, Margaret and their family appear in the 1901 federal census (Shelburne-Queens 40-M, Brooklyn [house 29, family 29]). William was Methodist and Margaret and the children were Baptists. He was a caulker who earned about C$300.00 in 1900. They resided in a four-room house, which was located on the south side of Main Street, Brooklyn. The census did not indicate whether the house was owned or leased.
