540. Robert Eugene Nickerson (Margaret Sephorah Hyson5, Ursula Elizabeth Turner4, Anna Barbara Salzmann3, Casper Friedrich2, Isac1). Born on 8 Mar 1893 in Sandy Cove, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.6 Robert Eugene died in 1975; he was 81.

Robert Nickerson enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 15 December 1915 according to the ‘Attestation Paper’. At the time that he enlisted, he was living in Liverpool and was a fisherman. He had previous military serve in 68th Regiment at Aldershot, N.S. with which he had served one year. Robert was tall, nine inches, weighed 170 pounds, and had a light complexion with grey eyes and dark brown hair. He was a Baptist. (N.A.C., RG 150, Box ).

The 68th Regiment was founded as the King’s County Battalion of Infantry on 10 August 1869 and renamed the 68th King’s County Battalion of Infantry in November 1869. On 8 May 1900 the battalion was renamed the 68th King’s County Regiment. The recruitment region for the regiment was expanded in September 1908 to include Queen’s County. Robert Nickerson went to Boston, Massachusetts when he was 16 years old and joined either the Merchant Marine or the U.S. Navy. Upon his mother’s death in 1910, he returned to Nova Scotia. He joined the Canadian Army when 18 and went overseas. He was wounded in France and lost both legs below the knee. He was in hospital in England for two years. Then, he returned to Canada and had rehabilitation in Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. There he met his wife. He walked well with artificial legs. Some did not know that he was an amputee. He lived a normal life, drove a car, climbed ladders, cut grass, built cupboards, etc. He never complained and was a cheerful, humorous person. He worked at the Dept. of Veterans’ Affairs in Toronto. He worked as a bookkeeper and had good penmanship. (Sharon Glover Nickerson, 1999)

Robert Eugene married Alice Gillespie. Born abt 1900. Alice died in Ontario, Canada, in 1987; she was 87.

543. John Allen Nickerson (Margaret Sephorah Hyson5, Ursula Elizabeth Turner4, Anna Barbara Salzmann3, Casper Friedrich2, Isac1). Born on 29 Jan 1899 in Sandy Cove, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.9 John Allen died in Brooklyn, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, Canada, on 21 Sep 1965; he was 66.6 Buried on 23 Sep 1965 in Brooklyn, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.6 Occupation: Farmer, Highway Foreman.

On 22 Sep 1925 John Allen married Lorna Doone Coombs, daughter of William Seward Coombs & Bertha Gertrude Godfrey, in Milton, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.6 Born on 30 Jun 1903 in Milton, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.6

Born on 17 Aug 1901 in Sandy Cove, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, Canada. Russell William died in Seattle, King Co., Washington, U.S.A., on 28 Nov 1995; he was 94.61 Occupation: Accountant.

On 16 Jun 1932 Russell William married Margaret Irene Hardland in Petersburg, Nelson Co., North Dakota, U.S.A. Born on 24 Mar 1907 in Larimore, Grand Forks Co., North Dakota, U.S.A. Margaret Irene died in Seattle, King Co., Washington, U.S.A., on 4 May 2001; she was 94.

Russell and Irene Nickerson with two children resided at 7311 35th Street SW, Seattle, King County, Washington according to the 1940 United States federal census. They owned their home which was valued at USD 3500.00. Russell Nickerson was an accountant for an investment company. He immigrated to the United States from Canada and was naturalized. 545. Borden Fielding Nickerson (Margaret Sephorah Hyson5, Ursula Elizabeth Turner4, Anna Barbara Salzmann3, Casper Friedrich2, Isac1). Born in 1904 in Sandy Cove, Queens Co., Nova Scotia, Canada. Borden Fielding died in 1979; he was 75.

Borden Nickerson served in the Canadian Army in the Second World War. He was a motorcycle driver in France. While serving in the Army, he collected a German military handgun and ‘Kaiser’s helmet.’

After the War, Borden Nickerson resided in Ontario and worked for a bank. After being severely mugged, he returned to Nova Scotia. He lived most of his days at the family home at Great Hill, Queen’s County, N.S. He later lived at Sandy Cove.

Herman Nickerson resided in Oakland, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia according to the 1911 Canadian federal census. He lived in the household of Moore and Emma Acker to whom census stated there was no relationship [while in fact he was the nephew of Emma Accker, his late mother’s sister]. He was a Baptist. According to the 1921 Canadian federal census, Herman Nickerson resided in Oakland, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. He lived in the household of Moor and Emma Acker. There was nio stated relationship to the family [when in fact he was the nephew of Emma Acker]. Herman Nickerson was being supported by Moor Acker. On 6 Jun 1934 Herman West married Margaret Sara Gates, daughter of Winslow Wilmot Gates & Susie Allen Chadsey, in Halifax, Halifax Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.6 Born abt 1912 in Newport, Hants Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.
